An Inspirational Installation

This past Friday I wrote about a book, American Junk. I took thoughts of junking with me to the opening a friend's bar/art gallery, Underbelly.

I knew Underbelly would feature art, but I didn't expect to see this interesting Installation entitled “Strategies for Making Time Stand Still”.

The vignettes are beautiful.

The artist Matt Alison is interviewed on the Underbelly blog. We talked a little about junking & using photography as a medium to helplessly capture a moment in our far-too-rapidly moving lives.

I also met his wife Kathryn who ironically was responsible for this installation that I posed in at the St. John's Towncenter.

Both artists went to Ringling College of Art and Design. I keep running into people who attended this art school in beautiful Sarasota (Where I go to occasionaly visit a good friend who went south for college). The more I run into people who attended Art School, the more I want to quit marketing and make the journey south to enroll in art school- but I'm just too damn economical* to quit my career.

So I'll continue to look at art, admire art, & acquire art- sharpening my skills without professional training.

*Cheap ass hell.

  1. Just wanted to say that Katie and I both enjoyed talking to you at the opening, and I am looking forward to our next conversation. Until then, keep fighting the good fight.
